Understanding the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme offers a financial reward to those using renewable energy to heat their homes. Long story short; you could be eligible for quarterly tariff payment for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of renewable heat you produce, paid over the course of seven years, if you install/have installed renewable technology to heat your home.
The RHI is a government scheme set up to help the UK (England, Scotland and Wales) achieve its target of producing 12% of its heat from renewable sources by 2020. There are currently two incentives, one for domestic residences and one for the non-domestic sector.
Payments are designed to help offset the installation and running costs of your new heating system. The domestic part of the RHI was launched in April 2014, and is government-funded, by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
